Farm to School

Northshore students will see more farm fresh fruits and vegetables this year.  This year we have partnered with Catalano Produce to expand our Farm to School program.

We have identified 17 Wisconsin Grown Fruits and Vegetables that will be sourced through local farms and delivered to each school during their growing season.  Students will be able to identify the name of the farm and learn where it is coming from.

Taher recognizes that students need to eat healthier, and believe a balanced meal is one of the best ways to make that happen.  You still will see the foods that kids love on our menus, like Chicken Nuggets and Pizza, but we also encourage them to eat a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to complete their meal.  Each day they have three vegetables and two Fruits to choose from on the Fruit and Vegetable Bar, and when we can offer foods so fresh and inviting as the Farm to School program provides, it makes it easier convince them to try new things.  It also helps out our local farmers which we are proud to do.

On Line Services
If you have visited the Payments page, you already know that parents now have the option of making payments into their family lunch account electronically, using their checking, saving, debit or credit card.  As more and more people switch to on line banking, we feel it is a logical step for the School Lunch Program.  We are excited about the level of convenience and accuracy that this new service provides the program.

We also have added the option of reviewing your family account statement on line, 24 hours a day.  Balances and purchases will be updated daily by 6 pm, so you can verify a payment was entered, or see what charges were posted to your account each day.  Paper statements can now be eliminated by sending us your email account information, saving the paper and time it takes to send over 2000 statements home each month.

More Scratch Cooking
We will be adding more new entrees, salads and sandwiches made from scratch on our menus.  Offering alternate choices gives parents peace of mind that their student will find an entree that they will enjoy, and allow us to introduce new recipes to students.  Salads such as our Chicken Caesar or Taco Salad, and new recipes like Italian Stromboli and Chicken Divan are made with whole ingredients instead of processed food items.  We understand that changing kids eating habits cannot happen overnight, but we feel it is our responsibility to expose them to a healthier menu, and encourage them to try new things.

The menu page has some information on new recipes to share with your child, and also so you are aware of what the items contain.

BGH Free Milk
We are happy to provide our students with BGH Free milk as we have recently changed our milk vendor. Deans milk is guaranteed BGH free.

  Food Bar

We have expanded our fresh food selections on our fruit and vegetable bars. Whether the individual school uses an actual food bar or counter set-up, the fresh vegetable and fruit selections have increased to offer an even greater variety than before.

Middle School Line Change
The middle schools no longer accept cash in the line. All purchases must be made from a student's lunch account. Money must be available in the account for a purchase to be made. Students must have money turned in to the kitchen by 9:00 am for purchases to be made that day. Parents are encouraged to print out and fill in the restriction form if you have concerns about your child's purchases. The form may be turned in to the school office or kitchen.
