Veterans Honored At Wisconsin Lutheran H.S.

IMG_20141111_075641389Wisconsin Lutheran High School hosted a special ceremony for Veterans Day. It has become something of a tradition with this being the 21st year.

Close to 400 veterans entered the gym for the ceremony, with a crowd of family and friends close behind.

Featured guest speakers were the Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Colonel Johnny Davis, a Purple Heart recipient who fought in three wars and is an alumnus of the school.

Colonel Davis is now the commander of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, otherwise known as the Old Guard.

His main message: “Giving thanks for selfless service.”

Emotion overtook many in the audience following Col. Davis’ speech as some of the veterans at the ceremony have family serving.

After the ceremony, Taher Food Service Specialist Lorrie Wanty and her team served everyone breakfast. Guests enjoyed quiche, seasoned breakfast potatoes, sausage, fresh cut fruit, sweet rolls, juice, and coffee. Student workers helped organize the event, and served guests from the line and also by going table to table to those seated.
