Feeding The Millennials

Chef Matt Quist Taher Food Service

Every generation approaches food in very unique ways with different things in mind. Today’s Millennials are entering our schools and workforce with more knowledge of food, and greater experiences with food.  Whether it is a value item, a unique experience they’re looking for, or a portable grab & go item, all are eating with greater expectations, evolved palates and an ever-ready Instagram trigger finger. (It’s a social media thing, for all you Baby Boomers!)

There is one thing Executive Chefs Brian Renz and Matt Quist will agree on… Millennials want their flavors BOLD!

They want that “in your face” kind of flavor.   “When we advertise Spicy Chicken, they want it spicy!” says Chef Brian.  “They want to taste what the menu says.”

Chef Matt shares, “Food isn’t all about authenticity as much any more, but it needs to be bold in flavor and food that incorporates personality.”

Both Chefs will also tell you that today’s Millennial is looking for integrity in the ingredients; they want to know where their food came from, if it is unprocessed and whether or not it has been locally sourced.  They know more about these things than some of the previous generations did.

“Convenience is also very popular,” says Chef Matt.  “Students are on the move and looking for that convenience without sacrificing bold delicious flavors.”

Our Chefs step up to this new challenge and strive to provide bold new flavors, with integrity in our practice and purchases, to satisfy the busy schedule of today’s Millennial.
